What our donors say about the METCO College Scholarship Fund of Lexington:
I became a host family in 1969 and always considered Lexington's participation one of the best things about our school system. Equal opportunity is an aspiration for all the young people in our community and the METCO students are very much a part of our community. I donate to the scholarship program to help them build on their hard work and educational experience in the Lexington school system.
~ Jane Trudeau
The METCO voluntary desegregation program has earned broad support as a means of enhancing diversity in Lexington schools as well as providing an exceptional opportunity for brave and willing inner-city school children. Most of our Lexington METCO kids come from families of very limited means and decide to become the first in their family to attend college. I want our METCO kids to have an optimal prospect of success, and to know that our community stands solidly behind them, by rewarding their efforts with substantial scholarships.
~ David Rothstein
As a participating family as well as the METCO Family Friends coordinator at Harrington School for many years, I was able to stay in touch with some of our students as they entered high school and beyond. Many of these students while beginning their post-secondary matriculation, had gaps in their financial means, and when I found out about the METCO College Scholarship Fund of Lexington, it was an easy decision to become a yearly contributor. Through my husband’s company's matching grant program, we were able to increase our support for the scholarship fund.
