MISSION

The mission of the METCO College Scholarship Fund of Lexington (MCSFL) is to help Boston graduates of Lexington High School achieve their higher education goals

The Fund supports students and their families by providing renewable four-year scholarships to students throughout their college career and making funding available for emergency needs to help students overcome obstacles to success.

The Fund has also partnered with the METCO program at Lexington High School and Bright Horizons College Coach to provide college financial counseling for students and their families;

In 2021, we provided over $71,000 in scholarship and emergency funds to 28 students.

HISTORY

In 1968, Lexington joined six other school districts in accepting students from Boston under the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) program – a voluntary program promoting enhanced educational opportunities for city students and increased diversity for suburban schools. There are now 3200 students participating in 33 school districts. See more information about Lexington METCO here: https://sites.google.com/lexingtonma.org/metco/home

In 1969, Lexington citizens founded the METCO College Scholarship Fund of Lexington to provide first-year scholarships to Boston graduates of Lexington High School. In 2015, the Directors of the Fund expanded the program to provide scholarships for four years of college. In 2021, the Fund created an emergency fund to help address non-academic financial needs of students that are impeding their college progress.

In 2021, the Fund for the first time partnered with the METCO program at Lexington High School and Bright Horizons College Coach to provide college financial counseling for METCO students and their families.
